Hawaii’s State Building Code Council has adopted the 2018 IRC. It went into effect as the state residential code on 11/17/2020. The counties have two years from that date to amend and adopt it themselves before it becomes automatically applicable as the county residential code. Until then, the 2012 codes as adopted remain in effect. (6/16/21)

If you receive a gray color-coded finding for your search area, your community’s residential building code adoption status may not be available; however, you may contact your local government for the information. Please keep in mind that mobile homes and manufactured housing are not constructed using the residential building code reflected in this analysis, so this website is not applicable to those types of structures.
